It worked fine for 2 years. All of a sudden it takes forever to
dowload pages, or it doesn't do it at all...

1-My computer is an HP Pentium 3, with 512 ram. And my plataform is XP
2-High speed connection
3-I use Microsoft Windows One Care (I haven't changed any settings)
4-I already un-install IE7, and install a fresh one, with the same
results.
5-What if funny is that if I am already in a web page (like CNN, BBC
etc), I can have a fast downloading of the links of this pages.... But
anythin I type in the web address area it will take forever.
6-I also try to shut off the Pishing choice, but did not make any
difference.

I am sending this email from my old Windows 98 laptop! that now is
faster than my XP!!!!

Thanks for your help!

Go through these Cleaning steps:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883256
Scan for malware from here:
SuperAntispyware - Free
http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html

Run a scan from here on-line:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Download Avast Cleaner (offline scanner) from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html

Lots of tools to download and disinfect your machine (offline scanner):
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Downloads/browseFreeRemovalTool/

After the scan run disk cleanup on your drive.

2- Download the Hijackthis and send the report to one of many
forums for analysis and troubleshooting:
http://www.merijn.org/index.php
When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis) is
the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. Post
your log to http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://forums.subratam.org/index.php?showforum=7, or other appropriate
forums for expert analysis, not here.

Black Viper's Top tweaks for a faster PC

StartupList Index

Please don't send the Hijackthis log here, but you can let us know the
result of the scan for both malware and viruses, also any progress.
Good luck.

my suggestions are:

1) relocate the internet
temp file to the c:\temp
directory,

2) increase the internet
folder size to 250 megs,

3) run hijack this as nass
suggested and simply delete
everything that is found,

4) use a freeware called
autoruns from microsoft.com
and disable any non microsoft
browser helper objects notated
in the browser tab.
---------------------

incidentally, ie7 will run
in windows safemode w/networking.

so if it runs much better there
than in normal mode, then
this would be an important
clue.

I didn't think IE7 had been out that long - 2 years? unless you include the
betaware periods - how time flies.
A more suitable group maybe this -

IE7 questions should be posted to the Internet Explorer General newsgroup as
below -

In your Newsreader:

If you need to use the Web Interface -

Also - may be of use later :-)

DBen means by deleting which found, not all the scan entries but the bad
entries found and you can use the Internet to get an info or use one of the
forums.
Please be clear about this and don't check all entries in the scan and click
Fix or remove as this will render your system NUTS, just the bad entries if
you know them.

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using!

3. If you uninstall (a) IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), (b)
all toolbars and (c) all third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds) and do NOT reinstall IE7, does this behavior persist? If it does,
do NOT reinstall IE7.

IE7 (Un)Installation and Anti-Malware Applications:

4. Required reading IMHO before reinstalling IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO THE LETTER!
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install

[And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.]

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
reinstalling IE7 to install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

I want to thank you all for your advise. I have a lot of homework to
do tonight.

In this tricky and hellish world of computers it's nice to have
guardian angels (specially for the not that tech oriented people like
me)

Thanks a million.

well, i delete "all" of mine
completely and my computers
run exceptionally well.

most entries will be
added again by their
parent programs.

those pertaining to
www, html and the
browser will not only be
added again but replicated
a number of times.

it is those entries left that
refuse to be deleted that
are of great concern and
be forced to be removed.

but in the end, i am content
as well as my computer to
produce a blank hijack log
when it is re-ran.

however, your suggestion
is ok as well but only if
you personally examine
the entries to determine which
should be ignored and which
should be deleted.

based on my experience,
there should be none listed
in the hijack log.
