Why, Oh Why, does the windows update function in Win XP and Internet Explorer
(version above) produce an error report each time I try and access the
website? Why can't I get a copy of the report (Can I access the log files
for this somehow?). How can I tell if the updates are being done (I have it
all fully automated according to the instructions). I could go to the update
website and try and do it individually and recently I tried this but it took
a very, very long time. I even reload the OS and still I get this problem.
The last time I loaded the system I did the updates before I loaded Windows
Live OneCare and there were no problems, I wasn't secure but at least I was
up to date. I can't find anyone else with this problem. Once I loaded
Windows Live OneCare it started up again. Any and all suggestions as to what
is causing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Very often, the problem of accessing the update website is caused by a
corrupt activeX component (WUWebControl) in the "%windir%/Downloaded Program
Files" folder. Delete it, and restart IE to try the site again.
