Every site entered in the address bar will not connect
also getting the message:Downloading from
site:res://C:\WINNT\system32\shcloclc.dll/dnserror.htm
that appears in the address bar after i hit GO, every time.
Also at bottom of the Internet Explorer page in the far
lower, left corner there appears "Connecting to site
127.0.0.1", no matter what site I enter in the address
bar. Also Realplayer will not connect,( I understand it
uses the Explorer), along with a variety of others that
use Explorer.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts

Check out this file. This is your problem. It has nothing to do wit
Winsock, etc. You can open the file with Notepad. Just delet
everything except for:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Save it and open IE. You should be good.
