Internet Error

I have tried unsuccessfully numerous times on my computer
to go to a particular home page. No matter how I try to
access it, I cannot. I have tried MSN, Yahoo and Google's
pages.

Thru MSN address bar, I type the address
http://the3dshop.com/ (with and without the last '/') and
click 'GO' I get the following message:

The page cannot be displayed.
There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach
and it cannot be displayed.

Please try the following:

Open the www.the3dshop.com home page, and then look for
links to the information you want.
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Click Search to look for information on the Internet.
You can also see a list of related sites.

HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Internet Explorer

If I then click on the home page link in the error message
the same message results.

If I try this at my office, I can access the page easily.

Any idea why I cannot get to the home page from my
computer?

Yes. You aren't using the same DNS in each place.

Use nslookup to see the difference.

FWIW on my DNS the domain exists but does not have an address.
Only the www server name has an address. It's possible that the DNS
for your office allows the domain name as an alias for the server name.

Depending on the policies of the two sites you might be able to
override your home DNS with one for your office. In that case
you would be more likely to see the same behaviour at both locations.

Another way to supply an override would be to add the alias name and the
real server address as an entry in your home machine's HOSTS file.

This example provides proof that you can't just arbitrarily drop the
www. prefix from some site names. Even if there is an IP address
for the domain name it is not necessarily going to allow you to connect
to the same server that the proper www. name would.

You are relying on a fix by Internet Explorer.

When IE attemps to go to a site that fails, it tries to put www. at the
beginning and .com at the end.

In your case, the domain name is the3dshop.com and the server is named www.
Therefore, the proper FQDN is www.the3dshop.com.
