Internet connections

Brian

I am new to computers, and am having trouble with
downloads, during a download an incoming phone call
cancells the internet connection and I lose everything,
obviously I must have it set up incorrectly, as all
incoming calls overide the system and automatically
disconnect the internet,
Help would be appreciated or advice where to find the
answer in microsoft help, I use Windows XP

Contact your telephone company and ask them what you need
to dial to disable call waiting etc. Add this number
before your ISP's number for your dial up session. For
example Telstra Australia add *44 <ISP Number>.

Hope that helps :)

I haven't dealt with this problem for a while since I
moved away from modems, but my recollection is that there
is a setting in your modem properties that you need to
click to disable call alert or call waiting while the
modem is using the line.

I recall that you will be looking for either a checkbox or
else your modem documentation will provide you with a
character string that you need to enter to disable these
features on your phone line while the modem is on.
