Internet connection usage

Hi,

A friend of mine is always over her monthly transfer limit on her adsl
connection. She does not know why.

Does someone have experience with a free utility (w/o any spyware) that
monitors the connection and lists the web sites or other activities (p2p,
newsgroups) by total data transfer ?

Only problem I have with it is that I use a wireless laptop and PC via
modem/router and it adds traffic between PC's as well as internet traffic
giving a misleading total.
If only using one PC it's ideal.
