Internet Connection Sharing and WiFi

If I have a conection to the internet via the NIC on my XP machine can
I share that connection via my WiFi card to people nearby that also
have WiFI ?

Assuming it's possible, what are the security issues for my machine
while doing this ? Myself, I run ZA, putty, and encrypted connections
to my pop and smtp servers, so I'm fairly safe when running wireless
but I need some info on how to make sure I'm safe when I'm letting
other people route thru my machine.
