Hi all
I hope you can advise.
I have just received a laptop from work which is set up for homeworking
where I can access my college's network from home.

At home I have 3mb broadband, and at the moment I cannot use both my laptop
and desktop pc at the same time. I have to replug my cable into the laptop,
reboot the cable modem inorder to use the laptop to access my college
network drives and repeat the process with the pc to regain internet access

How would i need to configure a router, pc and laptop for internet sharing.
The laptop has been configured to access the college network directly from
my BB connection as is (no router) so will i need to reconfigure the laptop
myself now to connect via a router?

I have XP Pro on the lap top and XP (SP2) Home on the PC and at the moment
my pc connects directly to a cable modem

My pc (XP Home SP2-no xp icf enabled) has ZA firewall and Norton 2004 and
the laptop (XP Pro SP1) will use my work's Sophos firewall. I know a router
is a good firewall too. Will i need to change any other of my firewall
settings?

TIA
Regards
Sheri

My first advice would be contact your work IT guys and ask them about this
(if you have IT guys). They may have a VPN connection setup to automatically
run at boot up. If there's no shortcut on the desktop, you can put one there
to get away from rebooting to re-establish the connection.

Control Panel, Network Connections, look for a connection to your work such
as VPN and right click and click Create Shortcut (not Copy).

If it is a VPN and is working just fine through your cable modem, then it
should work via connection sharing from the desktop PC.

Now, you could try it and see what results you get.

Is your cable modem an ethernet model or a USB model?
