Internet connection Icon not showing

When I am connected to the internet the little icon with 2 pc's flashing back and forth is no longer on my task bar. The check box in the properties is ticked to show on connection. I have reinstalled my internet connection, still no icon. I have run a few of the fix it programs from kellys corner, it still is not working. Any ideas? It is a pain to disconnect, usually I have to log out and this brings up the disconnect box but not the box that shows how long you were connected.

I've been trying to solve it for 3 weeks now with no success.

It sounds so ridiculously simple that I have reservation in suggesting it,
but no one has mentioned if the Notification Area (System Tray)
customization dialogue box has ever been set correctly. The twin monitor
icon has to be set to [Always show] or [Hide when inactive] then [Apply],
[OK] out. [Hide when inactive] may not work the first time it is set. I
have found setting [Always show] first, then when the twin monitor icon
appears and stays, changing to [Hide when inactive] works. Of course, all
of this assumes that in the <your ISP> Properties dialogue box, the [Show
icon in notification area when connected] has already been ticked, as the
original poster indicated.

My recent tussel has been with an intermittent not-showing-up of the
(Internet) Disconnection dialogue box, not with the twin monitor icon. With
luck I have solved the problem, but this is a different matter and I think I
am correct that you are not referring to that.

That was the first thing I checked.

A quick Google search for "Notification Area icons" produced some
interesting hits, some of which addressed precisely the issue you are
having, I think. You may like to investigate:
http://tinyurl.com/2nrso.

Also, for retrieval of the twin monitor icon from the current application
software, this freeware as voted in, applicable for icons in general, by the
readers of alt.comp.freeware may come handy:
http://www.cdiware.com/

I have no experience in using any of the above, for I luckily have never had
the missing twin monitor icon. I wish you good luck. By the way, when the
issue is resolved, please do let us know how you did it.

I figured it out! :) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg
\BootOptimizeFunction in the right hand pane create a new string value if
it's not already there called Enable and give it a value of N "Kelly, give
credit where credit is due please."

That was quick! You finally solved it off your own bat after four days.
Well done, and thank you for sharing it with us. :o)

Now all I need to figure out is why fast user switching bounces me back to my
logon screen. :)

Run regedit.exe and goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control
\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters and set
EnablePrefetcher to 0 then goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002
\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters and set
EnablePrefetcher to 0 then HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters and set
EnablePrefetcher to 0 then delete everything in your prefetch folder and
reboot.

Yes that reg key will do if it has EnablePrefetcher in the right pane and to
delete everything in the prefetch folder goto C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\ select all
and hit the delete key on your keyboard.

Thanks for trying, but that didn't help my problem. I think I may go back to ME after all the troubles I've been having with X

Ok goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction and
set Enable to N Hope this helps.

Would that be located under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE as well?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction
