I just installed winXP pro upgrade. Because I run the SET
program all the time, I leave my computer on 24/7. Sinc
installing xp, when my computer is otherwise idle for a
undetermined amount of time(I'm away, asleep, etc), I com
back and find my internet connection dead. I have turne
off everything I could think of both in windows and in th
bios, such as screen saver, hibernation, power saving, etc
but the computer still seems to be going into some kin
of shutdown and my connection has been lost. I have to reboo
to get my connection re-established. Everything worked fine under '98.

Im on RRunner & have to send a 'keep connected' msg
every so often when I connect here using AGENT. IE is
no problem.

See if SETI has that option/email them.

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

Go into Device Manager and find your nic - double-click it to get its
Properties. Uncheck the box that says something along the lines of
"allow system to turn off for power management".

I've already turned off power management for the nic card. This seems to be associated with an automatic lock out, that comes on after a period of no input, like a screensaver does, that I don't know how to turn off

Power Management is OFF 4 my NIC too.
I need only enable 'keep alive' for AGENT - no other
app loses connection.

SETI almost surely must have a way - lots of PCs still
on dialup. Otherwise they may have to do without ur
awesome computing power :)
