Internet Connection Firewall and Outlook

I use a Cisco VPN to connect to my office in order to use the full MAPI
version of Outlook. I want to use the Internet Connection Firewall in
Windows XPP. I can connect successfully to my network with the VPN but can't
start Outlook, even if I add TCP port 135 to the settings dialog box.

I understand that Exchange 2000 dynamically creates a port after it listens
on port 135. So, how can I configure the settings--what do I have to add--to
allow Outlook to work with Internet Connection Firewall??

Many thanks for any help!

Ron,

The VPN software creates a secure "tunnel" from your PC to your office
server. In this case, there is no reason to run XP's built in firewall, or
any other firewall for that matter. The Cisco Client has its own firewall
component. Plus all information sent/received while the VPN client is
active is encrypted. Anything that doesn't match the encryption key used,
is rejected.

Doug,

I would like to use the ICF on this clients computer for all other Internet
traffic when they are not using it with the VPN. I know that they won't
enable/disable it during a VPN connection. Is there no way to enable the ICF
and still allow Outlook traffic through when they use the VPN to gain office
access?

Many thanks!

You might be able to, Ron, but this is more likely a problem with the ports
the VPN connection uses to communicate. You need to find out what ports the
Cisco VPN client uses for inbound traffic, and open that port in XP's
firewall.
