I found this site, which might be of interest, while looking for something
else. There's some freeware in there somewhere!

(Incidentally, I was looking for a search engine which I saw some years ago
which displayed its results as thumbnails of the pages found. It is
probably defunct, but if not and you have the URL would you please post it.)

Archive.org is one of my favorite sites.

The Internet Archive is building a digital library of Internet sites and
other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, we
provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, and the
general public.

I haven't looked at software there but there are live shows by musicians
who have given permission to the archive to store shows. Wayback
machine that allows checking past webpages from many different sites;
video collections; and many other free resources.
