When I turn on my computer using the XP home operating system I am unable to
connect to the internet without restarting the computer, then I am able to
access the internet. What I have found is that another computer I have on
this computer’s wireless network does work anytime that it is turned on. In
the windows operating system events and errors on the problem computer I
initially found an error with the detail 1517-usersenv-5.2-EVENT_HIVE_SAVED.
Microsoft help suggested downloading Uphclean. This took care of the error
message, but not the internet not being connected at start up. I then
discovered a message in Event/Error log that stated-
4202-Tcpip-5.2-EVENT_TCPIP-MEDIA-DISCONNECT. I have gone beyond my ability
to solve this issue.

Hi,
Try reinstalling TCP/IP protocol and check. TO do the same follow these
steps:
1) Go to n/w connections in Control panel
2) Right click your wireless or wired connection icon and click on properties.
3) Under the general tab, please click on INSTALL button.
4) Select Protocol and click ADD
5) The select "HAVE DISK"
6) THen put in the path c:\windows\inf and click OK
7) THen, please select TCP/IP protocol
8) Click OK and OK.
9) Restart the computer and check.

Vinay S thanks for the help. The fix did not seem to work. It did clear the
1517 event from showing up in the event/errors log after shutting off and
restarting the computer, but I still did not have internet access until the
computer was restarted.
