Internet Access but no Internet Access

Hello All,

I have a problem with my Windows 2000 computer. I have been accessing the
Internet without any problems until this week when, after dialing p, the
connected icon appeared in the system tray & I opened up IE only to get a
this page cannot be displayed icon. I then opened up Outlook to find that
Outlook cannot access my server through my Interent connection.

Can anybody tell me why the computer is connected to the Internet and yet
the applications do not seem to be able to use it?

Can you access sites by ip address? Can you ping other sites?
I sometimes get connections that have DNS problems and only work with
IP addresses. My problem now is that I can ping but can't access sites. This has been the case since I ran windows update.
