Internal memory card readers?

I am planning my new system. I have an extra external bay or two (as
well as USB headers on the new mb) and am thinking about placing a
memory card reader in one.

Does anyone have any good/bad things to say about various brands? No
high-end brands seem to produce them. I have found units by Sabrent,
Kuotech, Logisys, Atech...

Thanks in advance.

I'm on my third dashboard type card reader and I won't build a new
computer without one. They have been fairly inexpensive units from
Tiger Direct and Newegg. The only issue that I had was with one that
had a usb cable instead of a header connection (had to run the cable
out of the back of the computer and into a usb port). Every once in a
while, the reader would not be recognized and I had to unplug and
re-plug it in to use it.

Do you have any brands/models to recommend?

I currently have the Rosewill from Newegg running on an AMD, XP Pro
machine with no problems. I think one of my previous models was a
Logisys. I would imagine pretty much any of the ones listed on Newegg
in the $15 - 20 range should fit your needs.

Some people report that setup is not automatic, depending on the Mobo
or operating system, but I've encountered no problems with several
Mobos and Win 98SE, 2K or XP other than the previously mentioned one.

A USB cable could be useful cos at least you could unplug and replug it -
if it had a header you would need to shut down the pc. I suppose you cut
down a expansion card blanking plate to make an exit hole? I think most
modern boards have internal USB sockets rather than headers?

Interesting point for consideration. I hadn't realized the value of one
type of connection over the other.

Thanks
