Windows XP Home SP2...

From an Adeptec dual Firewire/USB controller (PCI: I/O is 3 USB 2.0 and
2 Firewire ports), a Firewire TDK DVD writer has suddenly started
failing to show up under "My Computer". OF course this is intermittent!

USB ports and devices are all working fine.

The second Firewire device is an A-D video converter that is normally
powered off unless I'm converting old videotapes to DVD. This appears in
My Computer regularly.

The video converter is consistently present (and the DVD writer
consistently hit or miss!) regardless of which of the two ports they are
connected to.

I'm suspecting the beginning of the end for the DVD writer....any other
ideas are welcomed.

Thanls

Shut down your computer, disconnect the mains input, watch your PC's
power LED whilst holding the power button in until the light goes off,
reconnect the mains and boot into Windows.

It's worth a try. I had to do this with a previous mobo and firewire
card. It used to get my Sony GV-900E DV deck recognised again in
Device Manager.

Thanks. After several replugs, and a few hours doing some long overdue
system/data backups, it is now being recognized all the time. Maybe I
just needed to get some bits flowing through that path again:-)
