intermitent sound

I have Windows XP 5.1 and Windows Media Player11. When I play any file in any
mediaplayer or from a cd the songs skips like an old phonograph. Alomost in a
streaming issue. i upgraded my ram thinking that 256 was not enough and added
a 1g since I added a wirless network however it did not solve the problem.
