INTERESTING: Paper brand = banding???

Hey all.

Here's the scenario: Brand new iP4000. First set of carts (OEM).

Printing some of the 'test' images that are offered by various places
to test color gamuts.

With the exact same settings, Canon Glossy Photo Paper shows slight
banding - only visible in areas of solid color. Epson Premium Glossy -
NO banding.

The Epson paper feels slightly heavier than the Canon. Could this be
the factor?

If weight is a variable, I guess I better check the weight of the
Kirkland paper before I go and buy 500 sheets next week.

Comments welcome!

BD.

Please, everyone: in your posts, be certain that you name the brand of
your printer in addition to the model, preferably in the message heading!

Don't assume that everyone here knows all the Canon models by heart and
understands what you're talking about.

My printers are (2) HP, OKI LED, Brother laser, (2) Panasonic dot
matrix, and (1) Olympia daisywheel (made by Nakajima). Not one of these
is Canon.

The advantage to those of us who do not use Canon printers is that we
can tell quickly that these posts don't apply to us, and saves wasted
time in loading the post, only to find that it's not for us.

If this were a Canon-only group, talking about printers only by model
numbers would be just fine. But we're involved with many brands, in fact.

Thanks

Richard

You are 100% correct. People _could_ google the model, but shouldn't
have to, obviously. Sorry 'bout that.

Hey all.

Brand new Canon iP4000. First set of carts (OEM).

Banding and metal wheel impressions on Canon versus Epson paper are the
issues I've identified, and I'm curious if anyone has seen similar

What comes to my mind is traditional machine marks on different brands
of paper -- due to the different equipment used by paper makers. But I
may be off-base here; I've noticed this on regular (non-photo) papers:
not the same thing as watermarks.

However Canon probably made parts for the HPs (if they are lasers)

Out of interest, who makes the drums for Brother lasers?

No, these marks appear as the paper is being printed. They correspond
directly to the small metal wheels which press against the rubber
rollers on the output roller. It is these metal wheels which (almost
certainly) are creating the marks.

But not on Epson paper. Only on Canon.
