IntelliPoint: program-specific buttons don't work

As per the title, my custom program-specific buttons do not work in
IntelliPoint.

They stopped working about 2 days ago. I have no idea why. As far as I can
recall I haven't done anything to my system. I used IntelliPoint 6.2,
upgrading to 7.0 didn't help. Closing a bunch of apps and re-starting
ipoint.exe didn't nothing either. I haven't actually rebooted yet, because
I'm remoting my computer from work, but it seems unlikely it would solve my
problem - anyhow, if it does, I'll be sure to update my post.

I disabled program-specific settings and deleted the settings from the
Registry, then made new settings, but of course, that proved unfruitful as
well.

What does Device Manager show? Everything ok? Does it show it is using
IntelliPoint driver being used, or something else?

Hello Bill, thanks for trying to help me :)

Strangely, but luckily, rebooting sufficed in getting rid of my problem.
Heaven knows how, but I'm glad it's over!

After a few hours the problem has come back. There are no errors in Device
Manager and the device shows up as "Microsoft USB Wireless Mouse
(IntelliPoint)" which should be correct, as this is how it shows up at work
too, where I have the same setup. Last time it was working was last night. I
only tried again this morning, so I don't know exactly when it stopped
working again.

The only difference from when it used to work is that I changed the large
thumb button assignment, from a built-in IntelliPoint function to instead
launch an external file (a script I made in AutoHotkey). I suppose there
might be some kind of correlation between those, but how and why that would
be eludes me.

Hi "skribb",

It has been a few days, still having the problem?

Start> Help and Support> Search: wireless mouse
Results: Install a Bluetooth mouse

In that article, after using a wired mouse to install the wireless mouse,
the Notes mentioned you can leave the wired mouse connected and use both
mice, which I found interesting, but I noticed this also:

• If you are reinstalling the mouse, delete it first from the device list in
Bluetooth Devices in Control Panel.

In Help and Support, below the Search box, click "Set search options", and
use 40 results. Then when you search while connected to the internet, you
will get a lot more Knowledge Base results. I noticed one time that the
16th result had the answer I was looking for, but with the default
15 results, I would not have seen it.

HTH. (Hope This Helps. :)

Yes, in a sense.
IntelliPoint still won't work, but I have assigned the buttons manually
using a script I made for AutoHotkey (that overrides any settings
IntelliPoint has set), so essentially I am no longer bothered by the problem.
In fact, my script is superior to IntelliPoint in every way conceivable, so
it was somewhat of a blessing in disguise, this error.

Consider this case closed! :)

Hi again,

I'm glad to hear you found a work-around solution.
Thanks for reporting back.
