Intel 82443BX AGB vs VGA

Software seeks 600x800 resolution but apparently only VGA
drivers are running. What gives?

Do I need an "SVGA Graphics Card"?

Some information might be useful. Card you're using? OS? Driver
version? Bueller?

Win98. All I know about the card is "Intel 82443BX AGB" from
"system" in "control panel". It's a refurb Vectra 500MHz. I'm
wondering if the KVM switch isn't forcing the machine to go to VGA
instead of SVGA or XVGA. Monitor is a Compaq V55 Some software insists
on 600x800 so I either have to "wake up" SVGA or get a card
soon/cheap. If at all possible, would rather tie up an ISA than a PCI
slot

Much obliged
