Installing XP_Pro over XP_Home

P

Pete Sheridan

I have a system at home that was purchased with Windows
XP_Home as the OS. This system has been used for about
two months and contains many applications and quite a bit
of data.

I am changing my home environment from individual
networked workstations into a server environment with one
server and two to four workstations on line as needed.

I have purchased two copies of windows XP_Pro full version
(not the upgrade version). I will use one copy to setup a
new system that I am building and I want to install the
second copy on the system that is running XP_Home as its'
OS.

Question, if I just install the XP_Pro over the XP_Home
environment, will XP_Pro install and assume the
applications, data, email, etc. configurations that are
already on the system or will it fail to recognize the
environment that is now running and require me to
completely rebuild the system?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help,
Pete

Pete;
While at the Desktop, insert the Windows XP Pro CD.
Simply follow the prompts to upgrade to Windows XP Pro.
Data should be safe, back-up important data just in case.
