hi

i am trying to install xp on a new system with a new blank
hard drive-is xp able to be self booted like an old win98
floppy starup disk-without drivers how does the cd know to
recognizing the system-i even tried a win 98 startup disk
to get cd drivers loaded but the cd would not recognize
the xp in the drive-i changed the boot order to cd first-i
have an asus board & an amd 2000 chip-could you lead me to
proper formal installation instructions on a blank hard
drive on a never used system-could there be a bios
problem?, the bios does recognize the cd drive in the boot
setup & in the boot sequence

thank you

michael

Please provide more details. The brand new harddrive that I presume you
installed into this system should also outline how to format and partition
the disk. The new harddrive should also be able to boot your system for
these functions. Once you have completed the formatting and possibly
partitioning of the drive, then XP (whichever version Home/Pro) should be
able to install the OS on your drive.

Regardless of which version, with the XP-CD in the drive and the BIOS set to
recognize it as the first boot device, WATCH for the 'BOOTING FROM CDROM'
message and when it appears hit the spacebar to signal recognition to the
system that you want to continue from the CD. Then follow the directions.

Greetings --

Is English a second or third language for you? If so, may I
suggest that you try posting your question in a news group dedicated
to your native language? I say this not to insult or offend, but
rather to point out that you're not likely to get much help, if no one
can understand what you're saying.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you start by reposting in standard English,
complete with paragraphs, sentences, capital letters where
appropriate, and punctuation. As it is, your post is undecipherable:
the words used are from the English language, but are almost
completely meaningless as assembled.

From what little I was able to glean from your post, I can say
that all legitimate WinXP installation CDs are bootable.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You may need to
re-arrange the order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the
CD; consult the PC or motherboard's manual for specifics.
