Installing XP Pro when XP Home is on system

Guest

I have Windows XP Home edition installed on a 20gb hard drive (Drive C:). I
recently purchased a 200gb hard drive (Drive D:) and a copy of Windows XP
Professional.

I want to install XP Pro on Drive D: then copy all of my files from Drive C:
(except the OS files) to Drive D: then change Drive D: to Drive C: I will
then remove the 20gb drive from my system.

How do I go about doing this?

A simpler way would be to
1. make a fresh backup of your existing data.
2. Replace drive C: with drive D:
3. Install Windows XP Pro
4. Reinstall all your programs
5. Copy your data from backup

OR if you have drive-imaging software:
1. make a fresh backup of your existing data
2. make an image of drive C:
3. Install the image on drive D:
3. Replace drive C: with drive D:

Another option is to remove Drive C:, install the new HD as drive C:,
install XP-Pro and your Programs on it, then connect the old drive C: as
Slave to the new HD's Master and copy data files from the old HD to the new
HD that way. You can then remove the old HD if you choose.

Regardless of method used, always have a backup of your data files just in
case something goes wrong.

That won't work.

Remove the 20GB drive, make the new drive Master, install XP to the new
drive, install the 20GB as slave and then copy your files over to C:.
