installing XP Pro SP2 on SATA RAID

Hello everyone,

I am trying to install XP Pro (OEM) SP 2 on a new machine with a SATA RAID5
array. I F6 druring the install to specify a mass storage device driver, it
recognizes the array and even partitions/formats it. But, when it tries to
copy files I get can not copy error. I have tried two different main boards
an Asus and an Acer. I have run into this several times...in the past I
have simply installed XP from a SP1 disk then ran Windows Update to get SP2.
I have contacted the board manufacturers and have the latest drivers. Any
ideas?

Thanks!
Sam

I have done everything correctly. It will install just fine with a XP SP1
install disk. However, its dificult to purchase legitimatly licensed XP SP1
versions, they are all SP2 now.

Thanks,

Sam

Why are you installing the operating system on a RAID5 array? It is
an unneeded complication.

RAID (Redundant Array of Inexepensive Disks) was developed for use in
mission critical data servers where the data availability must be
maintained 24/7 with 100.00000000% uptime.

My suggestion is that you reconfigure your computer so that the
operating system is on a stand-alone drive and use the RAID array for
data if you require that degree of reliability.

Just a curious question from someone who is completely untutored in Raid
setup.

I am building a new Intel mobo system with integrated hardware raid. I
intend to use three disks - 1st for "operating system" & 2nd & 3rd for a
Raid1 setup for "data". Where do you recommend the installation of
"programs" - 1st or 2nd/3rd?
