Installing XP Pro after Vista

Hi,

I tried upgrading my XP Pro to Vista last week. Loved Vista, but didn't
match all my needs yet, so I wanted to go back to XP Pro.

I have tried everything, but after I press F8, to Accept the licens-terms,
it just tells me, that it cannot upgrade because there was no previous
version of Windows on my machine.
this is not word for word what it tells me, because I have a Danish XP.

I have tried three different CD's and I have changed det harddrive to a
brand new one.. but nothing. Even tried resetting the BIOS.

What to do?

You obviouslyhave an upgrade version of windows XP. It won't accept Vista as
a qualifying product because didn't exist when XP install was created.

You will need to get your copy of WinX that you used as a qualifying product
when you initially installed XP in the first place.

I could be wrong but there is a chance your XP key will be invalid if you
have activted Vista - maybe someone here can inform us of that status.

You should have created a disk image of XP before you went to Vista, then
you could have restored it quickly.

You are apparently trying to do a clean install of XP with an upgrade
version. That's fine with XP but the install should ask you to provide
qualifying proof by putting in a cd for an older operating system. At
that point you put your Win98/ME disk in the drive. Then the XP
installer will be happy and tell you to replace the XP install disk to
continue with the XP install.

It scould also be that she is trying to install XP by running setup
from within Vista, which can not do downgrades.

True, true. I guess we'll have to wait for the OP to come back with more
information.

Thanks for all the replies. First of all.. He! ;) Not she.

But! It is not an upgrade version of XP.
I am a systemsadministrator, and the XP I used is the one we have used for
clean installs for about two years now. I've tried it on other computers
aswell. It works fine.
I have replaces the harddive with a blank new one, so no, I am not running
it from Vista.

I have tried to insert a Win98 CD I had lying around, but with the same
result.
