I installed xp over 95. with nothing but problems. It
froze up and tells me that it is missing baseserv.dll.
well i can't get the pc to boot back to the cd so that i
may format the hard drive. I can't do nothing with it.
please advice!!

Thanks in advance,
Hope

For what it's worth you cannot do an in-place upgrade of XP over 95 but you
probably have already discovered that. Go into your computers bios and set
it to boot from the cd and format your drive and install.

That took lots of guts. I'd never try that even if offered payment for
doing so.

Wipe the drive with zeros. Install XP fresh.

Is it possible to take a 98 startup disk and delete the
windows directory and install windows 98 on the unit over
xp?

You will need to boot with a Windows 98 startup disk and format the hard
drive. You will probably also need to do fdisk /mbr to remove XP's boot
files. Then you'll be able to do a clean install of Windows 98. If this
is too hard or you'll need to get files off the hard drive before the
format (the format will erase everything), take the machine to a good
local computer shop (not a CompUSA or BestBuy type store) and have them
do it for you. Bring them your Win98 disk and related software.
