Hi,

Although I don't have any particular aversion to Windows Explorer/My
Computer, there are times when File Manager's immunity to the effects
of desktop.ini files and ability to show me the Windows filesystem as
it actually is have been invaluable to me in the past, and so, finally
having to move over to XP, I've downloaded the appropriate version of
winfile.exe from Kelly's site (thanks Kelly!) However, I don't know how
to install it. Is it just a matter of putting the executable in
c:\windows and creating a convenient shortcut in the Start menu, or do
I have to do anything else?

Thanks,

James McLaughlin.

I'd personally put it in either C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Program
Files\Winfile\ (The former for pathing, the latter for ease of copying/less
likely to forget it/organization) <- but it does not matter where you put it
or even if you put a shortcut to it. When you run it, it works. Put it
where ever you want, make whatever shortcuts you think you need, use it as
you desire.

That's all there is to it. Just place winfile.exe in c:\windows and
create a shortcut to it. File Manager is also very handy for setting
permissions and changing file\folder security.
