Hello to everyone. I have a compaq armada e500 laptop currently running
windows xp pro. The dvd-rom drive isn't working and has long been lost.
I desperately need to re-install windows on this machine. I also have a
dell deminsion pc running windows xp pro also. The both systems are
networked using a cross over cable (ethernet). Is there anyway I can
install xp on my laptop using the cd rom drive on my dell? I read sum
stuff about creating a NFS mount, but they said you need a server with
windows server software to do that. Is there anyother way?

I also have linux on my dell pc.(slackware) It can dual boot? can I use
linux to create a NFS mount to boot my laptop???

thankz.....

Hi

Assuming the current installation is some how running and that Network
connection is functioning.

Get a partition program and partition out of the Laptop HD 700MB as disk D:
format D: and copy through the Network the original XP installation CD to
the new Drive D:

Ok I can follow thus far. But when i do this, would I be able to format
partition C & install xp on that partition or would it be installed
partition D??

Hi
To install XP using this "trick" you need to run XP, so you can use it to
refresh the current partition.
