I have just installed and new internal drive (C:\) to replace my dodgy
excisting drive. I have partitioned and formated the new drive to NTFS
format changed the jumper to Master but I cannot load my windows operating
system and I do not know why. I have downloaded SP2 (version 5.1) on my
original disk but I want to load the original version on my new disk and
upgrade lated (This may may be an OEM product as I bought it with the
computer). As I suspect that there is a corruption problem with both Windows
xp and Microsfot Office xp I do not wish to copy one disk to the other as I
will be copying the faults as well.
My computer recognises the CD and states 'Set up is inspecting the computer
hardware configuration' then displays 'Window Setup' then just hangs.
Any ideas? I see a few similar cases already listed but they are not wuite
the same as mine.

You must/should be using at least XP with SP1 "slipstreamed" in order
to install any hard drives greater than 132GB. You could "slipstream"
SP2.

In order to install on to new C: drive, the older hard drive needs to
be disconnected.

The OEM version that came with your computer might be checking to see if all
of the hardware is the same as when 1st purchased...it just might be
stopping if your new HD does not match the original configuration.
just a thought

The only change in configuration is the size of the new drive 120gb (old
drive 80gb) and a new CD drive.

Please explain 'Slipstream'
I have downlaoded SP 2 on the old disk
Yes the old drive is disconnected

you might want to reinstall
your old harddrive and simply
add the new one a slave.

then, if i am not mistaken you
can setup/install windows on the slave,
and your computer can adjust the
current boot menu to load
the o.s. on the slave drive.....

how dodgy is the old drive......not working? noisy? or just the OS thats on
it now malfunctioning??
If it is just the OS try leaving the old drive on and create a new install
with a format of the HD during the install.Your new HD could then be added
as a slave drive.
