When booting from DVD to new HD I get the following message: "Application
error"
The exception unknown software exception (0xe0000100)
occured in the application at location 0x7705b09e.

I had XP on my sys but upgraded my motherboard last year when it went belly
up.

Apparently, you have a bad installation DVD. Are you using
an authentic and genuine Microsoft Windows Vista DVD?

How exactly do you boot from a DVD to a HD? You certainly provide no
information to help you. Are you using an upgrade version or full version.
Where in the install? What is your system. Are you upgrading or custom
installing.

Custom installing onto a new HD.
I tried booting it over my old XP when I had changed the mothernoard and got
the same message. It gets thru to the nice new desktop qithout the icons,
then up comes the message. The DVD is the full Home premium version.

This is after you get the 'first time starting' message, then. Have you
tried to use F8 on the last boot, selecting safe mode? How did you format
your hard drive? Since the only reported instance of this error in the
knowledge base is partition related, can I suggest that you delete anything
on that hard drive when asked where to install, then create a new partition
and in advanced, format the drive. Are you leaving XP on your system? If
so, I would also suggest you try making the new hd first in boot priority as
that way you would be only involving 1 hd in the install. When you post
back with any results, could you include all the information from your last
post, the hardware you are installing on and the answers to this post in a
New message, as that will bring others who don't look at older posts back
into the help process for you. Good luck.
