Installing Vista Business on older laptop

Specs:
XP Home SP3
Pentium M 740 1.73GHz
1.5GB DDR2@533 Memory
Intel 915 GMA 900 128MB shared video card
100GB SATA 5400RPM HDD

AS we can see, I can't run Aero because of GMA 900 video card. No big deal.
I want to purchase Business because Basic has no features whatsoever. Can I
install Business on my machine and take advantage of its added features and
just not have it use Aero or will I fail inspection and have the installer
fail?

I don't see where you mentioned the make/model of the laptop. Go to its
mftr.'s website and make sure there are drivers for Vista for that model.
If there aren't, I wouldn't make the change.

I got Vista Business to run nicely on my Acer 4060 Notebook [2GB CPU,
1GB RAM circa XP Pro] without too much drama.Had to update the chipset
and sound drivers to Vista from Intel after the installation, and as
you speculate, aero didn't work but that's no real issue for me.
Why not image the HDD first and then give it a go, you could also
contact the manufacturer of your Notebook for verification.
