installing The Sims 2 on Windows XP

The box claims that The Sims 2 runs on Windows XP;
however, when I put the disc in the drive and try to
download it says that it is not a valid Win32
application. I have tried using the compatibility
wizard, but it says that it is not prepared for this
program. How and what do I need to install this game??

Try this method to resolve the issue..
Boot into "SAFE MODE" using an Administrator Account:

To get to the safe mode option, Shut Down and then power on your
computer, keep pressing F8 until the Safe Mode menu appears.

Have you checked with Maxis support? (www.ea.com ???)

When you tried to install the game, was you anti-virus program runnig??
