Installing Intel Accelerator on XPHome SP2

P

Paul Woodsford

Have tried installing Intel Accelerator, correct version for my board.
It installs then on reboot I'm stuck on the Blue Caterpillar screen and
after 15 minutes chickened out , rebooted F8 and used last known
configuration that worked. Then I removed Intel Accelerator.

Can anyone give any advice on how to install this program?
Everything was closed down. Msconfig/Disable all Startup items/ Disable all
Non-MS services/ Reboot and then Install.

There are two versions of IAA. One with SATA support and one without. They
only provide enhance drivers. They do not appear in MSCONFIG. Just install
the correct one for your motherboard, but after installing the Intel Chipset
drivers.

NOTE: IAA only work on Intel based motherboard chipset drivers (i800, i900
etc) and do not support VIA, SIS or nVidia motherbaord chipsets.

Thanks Yves.
Done all that. Still no joy.
Have correct version and MB has 845 chipset.

Doesn't work with 875 chipsets either.

I just rebuilt a boxen for my elderly mother. I have an 845 chipset on an
Abit board.
I downloaded the inf update and the performance software from the above
Intel page.
Did the inf first and then the accelerator. boom badda boom. No problem.
Me not having your box in front of me, I would be hard pressed to say what
_your_
problem may be.

Yves, sorry for the question. I also use Win XP Home SP2 on a Dell
Dimension 4550, with a Pentium 4. I installed the IAA and I got a blue
screen after installing IAA, latest edition. After restating I sometimes
got a blue screen, but not always. The blue screen text said that this
is due to a driver problem. Searching on the web I found that the Intel
Accelerator was the probable culprit. Restoring and it works again.

Now, I want to be sure that the IAA is really behind the blue screen as
when i did not get the blue screen the PC was /really/ faster with the IAA.

My question not being a hardware buff: where do you find the info so
that I can see whether my motherboard chipsets are supported?

The Intel chipset identification tells me:
Chipset: Intel (R) 845G/GE/GL/GV/PE
memory controller 82845G/GE/GL/GV/PE
I/O controller: 82801 DB (ICH4)
integrated graphics: not detected or disabled.

And this meant that I could use the IAA. So there is some confusion?
contradiction? in all of tehse informations.

Thanks
- Frank

Version 2.22 of IAA is for the 845 chipset AIRC. Do not try the latest
version if 2.22 is appropriate.

This may be a very dumb question but ... how do I know I am using/running
the Intel Application Accelerator? Where would I find information about it?

Careful using Intel Application Accelerator. MSI suggested not using it
with my mainboard (MS-6566E).

Debbie:
The Intel Application Accelerator program will be found in the Intel folder
under Program Files (the default location). In Windows Explorer you can
access the program by double-clicking on the intelata.exe file. Click on the
Report tab to obtain info on the modes your IDE/ATAPI devices are running
at.
