installing in directory other than winnt

K

Kevin

I would like to install 2000 advanced in a directory
othter than winnt. However, the 2000 setup program
doesn't seem to provide a place where I can opt for
another install directory. I select a partition on which
to install it and don't seem to ever get an opportunity
to define a location other than winnt.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I don't have any experience with either of these methods; but from what I have read
about Windows 2000 Professional there are two methods you can use to designate a
different installation folder:

1) Perform an unattended installation and specify the folder name in the
"TargetPath=" parameter in the answer file.

For extensive documentation on unattended installations, look on your Win2000
Professional CD in \SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY.CAB for unattend.doc and deptool.chm. And
if you have the Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit, look for deploy.chm. For the
basics, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

KB216258 - How to Perform Unattended Windows Installation from CD-ROM
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=216258

2) Create a temporary WINNT folder on the installation volume before you run Setup
(since the Windows Setup program will prompt you for the installation folder if a
WINNT folder already exists). The following documents includes some methods you can
use to create a WINNT folder.
