Installing Flash

I usally use Opera7 as a browser on WinXP Pro.

I can't remember exactly how I installed Macromedia's Flash but I now
find that Opera can use Flash but IE6 can't.

Rather than install Flash a second time just for IE6, can IE6 be made
to work with the Flash software which Opera is accessing?

The Flash object should be installed. You can check by going to
C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files and see if you have an
entry called "Shockwave Flash Object". If so, double-click it to
locate it's CLSID D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000
In the Registry this key will be present @
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Internet Explorer\\ActiveX
Compatibility
If the object has a sub-key called Compatibility Flags and it's value
is set to 400 (Hex) then it is disabled for IE. Changing that value to
0 will re-enable Shockwave Flash for Internet Explorer.

Changing the registry entry worked well.

I do still have a question. If you recall, I installed Flash and I
use it with Opera. I do *not* have the entry "Shockwave Flash
Object" in C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files.

Is this perhaps because I did not use IE to download it?

Yes, I'm assuming that is why. Working with Windows is
like putting together a jig-saw puzzle that has new pieces in
the box every morning.
