Installing CF v2 - Will I have issues?

G

Guest

I am contemplating installing CF v2 Beta to test but am worried about
wreaking havoc in my current development environment. Should I be? Will I
still be able to create, debug and distribute my apps using v1 or will it
completely overwrite it?

Also, if I dont have a MSDN subscription am I correct in saying that the
only way to get .NETCF v2 is to install the full .NET v2.0 version?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

You should have no issues running VS.NET 2003 and VS.NET 2005 Beta 1
(which gets you to CF2.0) on the same machine. The same cannot be said once
you start introducing Yukon Betas into that mix. Do not attempt to mix
VS.NET 2003
and any of the CTPs. The combination of products that works reliably for me
is:

-VS.Net 2003 Ent Arch
-VS.Net 2005 (Whidbey) Beta 1 (No CTPs!)
-SQL Server 2005 (Yukon) beta 2 (NOTE: will play nicely with the above two,
but will NOT play nicely with SQL Server 2000 on the same box as all of the
above)

If you have trouble, visit microsoft.private.whidbey.smartdevices for help.

Mike,

I would suggest waiting for beta 2 before trying this combination although I
have gotten it to work with certain beta versions (and not others.) Of
course I'd also suggest a MSDN subscription. ;-)
