i'm trying to install autocad 2000 on my home pc (amd 2500, 512 ram).
the program does run on almost any pc newer than p111 with xp
i keep getting an error message saying: this program will only run on
windows nt,98,95

Win xp needs a new version of auto cad to run. Only win
xp compatible version will run in xp.

I have AutoCad 14 and 2000 installed with no problems using XP Pro. I read somewhere that XP Home doesn't support AutoCad because
the average home user wouldn't be using a cad program at home.

Installing ACAD 2000 using compatibility mode might work--it seems to
work OK for some, but not for others. 2000 is not supported under XP

Peter, that is not correct!! I run AutoCAD 2000 on my machine. It is XP and
there are no special considerations, it runs the same as it did on my 98
machine.

HI Phil,

I have no solution for the OP's problem, but I use AutoCAD 2000, even in 3D
on my XP machine with no problem, there is *no* compatibility issue. It
makes no difference whether it is Home or Pro.....

Hi Homer,

The only suggestion I have, is contact AutoDesk and see if they have a
solution. The program installs and runs fine on my machine.

I was just reporting what I had found in a brief Google search. It
appears that some users have no issues at all, while others are
successful using compatibility mode, and others have no luck at all.
It's not an unusual phenomenon when attempting to install software that
predates XP.

Contaction Autodesk will result in the OP being told that ACAD 2000
isn't supported under XP.

What's your point? I already said that some users report that it works
for them. That doesn't alter the fact that there is no support from
Autodesk for ACAD 2000 under Win XP, Home or Pro. If it works for you,
that's great. It *won't* work for some people, and telling them to
contact Autodesk won't help.

You must have something in your machine that conflicts with ACAD. *That is
my point*. If you can't get support from Autodesk, and don't care to share
with us some information that may help someone solve your problem, I guess
you'll have to buy the latest edition of AC and see if it will work. This is
not an AutoCAD support newsgroup in the first place!

Jesus F***ing Christ! *I* don't have a problem, I was just trying to
answer the OP when you jumped in with your irrelevant "It works for me."
So what??? It's not working for the OP and it's probably not going to.
