installing a network card

Unaware that I had a problem with my isp account, I
unistalled my newtwork card. Now my isp issue is resolved
but I can't get the D-link card to work again. When I try
to reinstall it I get error code 10, when I use the
Win2000 driver and i get a message like this: "error
occurred, the name is already in use as
either a service name or a service display name" refering
to D-link DFE 690 TXD Network card. I believe that in
making many attempts to reinstall it while the isp
problem was still on, I might have caused that to happen.
How can get pass this situation? Maybe clearing
those "service name or a service display names"? Thank
you for anyone who can help me. Eduardo

Eduardo - In Device Manager, Show Hidden Devices. Find all instances of
your network card. Right-click each instance and choose "uninstall". In
other words, you want to remove every single instance of this card.
Shut down the computer. Now if it were *me* (and I'm pretty compulsive)
I would open the computer, physically remove the nic and install it in
a different pci slot. Then I'd turn on the computer, let Windows find
it and install as usual. You might try this without the extra steps of
opening the computer and see if it works and it very well might, but
that is your choice.

If all of that doesn't work, then I'd stop messing about with this
particular nic and go buy another one. I don't know about prices where
you are, but I can get a perfectly good nic for $10usd.
