installing a maxtor maxline 3 300gb sata

i have a mesh pc and will be adding the above drive to my system i
already have a 160 gb sata on a raid 1+0 setup however i,ve been told
that raid will only work with hdd of the same capacity is this true
and if so , can i disable the raid controller?...thanks in advance

What do you mean by that you "already have a 160 gb sata
on a raid 1+0 setup"?
Do you already have 4 hard drives in your RAID setup?

Yes, you may disable your integral BIOS support for SATA RAID and run
two SATA drives as distinct entities. Your other option will be to
RAID, but at a capicity equal to the lessor amount of two unequal
drives. To do so, then, would double an effective value of what your
300G SATA is actually worth.
