Installing 2000

I recently purchased an IBM Thinkpad preloaded with WXP. I would like to use
W2k on this machine as the user (and myself) are far more familiar with it.
And the rest of our environment is also on W2k. The problem is when I insert
the OS disk, XP automatically disables the installation functions because it
is an older system. I was told by my IBM salesperson that I could
"downgrade" to 2000, but how do I do it? Or am I just out of luck and need to
get with the new world order? Thanks in advance.

You can install W2K, but it would require a clean
install. Back up any important files you may need first.

You have to boot from win2k cd, you may have to amend bios to boot from cd
first.
You will have to use the clean install method - all data will be lost.
You would however be advised to learn winxp, not least as win2k is no longer
available from MS as it has reached the end of its product cycle.

When the salesperson meant "Downgrade", he was probably referring to
licensing. If you have a license to run Windows XP Professional, then you
can legally run a previous professional version of Windows instead, such as
Windows 2000 Professional, if you wanted to.
