recieved a message saying:

if you are currently running windows in safe mode, or if the windows
Installer is not correctly installed, Contact your suport professional for
assistance"

I have followed various ideas posted online (like making sure services is
started, and have tried msiexec /regserver and msiexec /unregister without
sucess any ideas?

I have XP Pro SP1 installed.

Perhaps this can help:

You're welcome and sorry it didn't work.

Try deleting the contents of the temp folders, there may be a file in
there interfering with the setup routine of the installer. Get both:
C:\Windows\temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

Hope you fix it soon.

Hi Don - Sorry for the delay. The problem was a corrupted registry key. The
fix was to ID it and delete it. All this is simple enough. My problem now is
digging through my notes to point you to the correct hive and key. Bare with
me, I haven't forgotten you. FYI - our problem is/was identical. MS was no
help. I searched forums and message boards until I was blue. Finally a post
by an oriental fella (guessing that only because of his name) had the same
problem. I followed his solution and my problem was solved. All is now quiet
on the western front. I should have filed this tid-bit in my important
tips - but didn't.

In my case I got the nasty MS installer error when trying to reinstall
Office 2003. I searched through both of these and remove any key reference
to the application I was trying to install. Once I had done this the
installation went smoothly. MSI was back to itself.

If you have never been in your registry BE CAREFUL. This is the backbone of
your operating system. Export a copy of your registry to your desktop as a
backup just incase you FUBAR.

This solved my problem and I hope it fixes yours. Post back with whatever
results.
Cheers Doug
