I installed Pro on my Sony. When it finished the monitor is real small.

Properties indicate driver is for Intel 82830M graphics controller.

Max resolution is 640X480. It will not allow changing.

Anyone have a clue as to what to do?

Thanks.

Does the Vaio come with a driver CD or can drivers be downloaded from Sony?
On my notebook, unless I install the proper driver from the manufacturer,
the resolution locks at 800X600 with the standard driver on the XP install
CD.

Don't know John. I'll look on Sony site...the disks are at work and I'm
not.

Thanks for the link....but it asks for Part Code & Serial. It shows a
picture of what it wants.
Mine does not have a part code....it has a Part Number but when I enter P/N
& S/N it says it "Does not comply".

A closer look indicates they expect 8 digits for the Part Code and 7 for the
serial.

Of course, MY P/N is only 7 digits.

Talk about frustration!

It is a Viao model PCG651R (on the front it says PCG-R505GC).

I'll see if I can find the drivers on the disks at work....then it will
likely not have a driver for xp PRO!

Thanks.

Which Viao is it? the micro size ones have a very small screen real estate
size, and you almost definatly will need the monitor drivers from sony to
make XP see the real size of the screen. Check to see if it has detected the
monitor as a genric plug and play, if it has get the drivers for it, and see
if that unlocks the monitor sizing.

Visit the Sony support website and search for the Windows XP
compatible video adapter drivers for your specific Sony computer.
Also, you should install any other Windows XP drivers Sony
offers for your specific Sony notebook model.

Hi Joe,

I suggest that you download the Intel 82830M Graphics Controller Driver
from the following website and then install the driver:

I have exactly the same problem with My sony vaio- the screen size becomes reduced when XP is installed. The problem is, my sony is an PCG-R600HMKD- none of the sites mentioned here have drivers for this model (even the sony sites). What also might be related is that- upon installing XP- I prompted for the driver e100b325.sys which is supposed to be on the Intel Pro adapter CD-Rom (I have not got this disc since it does not come with my vaio!!). Is this the driver I need for correcting the screen size- If so does anyone know how to dowload it?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help,

Amar K

I know its a while since this was originaly posted but I've just had
the same problem on a PCG-R600HMKD when upgrading from Win2K to WinXP
Pro.

Problem solved by downloading the drivers for the 82830M graphics
controller from the intel website:

All good for me now!
Hope this helps anyone in a similar predicament.

Mik
