I am trying to install Windows update Explorer 6 on Service Pack 1 on
Windows ME
I am getting the following error message
Setup was unable to install all the components. Please close all
applications and try running again. I have done that several times,
I tried the help button and got the following message.
It appears you have the correct setup files, but the installation failed.
Try closing down all other programs and try running Setup again.
If that still does not work, contact Microsoft Product Support Services. I
have done this several times, my log in windows update shows it was
successfully downloaded 11 times, I know its not because I have tried to
download Media Player 9 series & microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 service pack 1,
they also require a restart and when I restart it tries to update explorer
6...and the erorr message as explained above comes on again. I have shut
down my Zonealarm, anti virus software (AVG) and Super ad blocker, doesn't
make a difference. Any ideas? Thankyou

Hi Joanne :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Courtesy of Oops!

For the "unable to install all components" issue in WinME, try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall"
folder and the files you moved.
