installation problem

After a recent windows update I now have an error which
states the program must shut down and requests a report
of the problem.
The program will never start and I have uninstalled and
reinstalled several times.

Do you have a virus scanner running on the machine?

yes, I have Noton Antivirus 2005. But I have this also on
another computer and the program works fine.

You might also delete the contents of the installation folder, typically
c:\program files\microsoft antispyware.

This will remove the possibility of retreiving any quarantined items, and
also delete all previously customized settings, but it may help.

There are also some files in the \system32 folder, but I'd start with the
above advice and see if it does the job.
