It all depends who you think should be the Judge in your home, you or

"Trustworthy Computing" is only another example of an Oxymoron!
"Produkt-Aktivierung macht frei!"

You must purchase a new license (Product Key) for the
second installation, otherwise Product Activation will fail.

Your license to use Windows XP permits you to
install one copy of Windows XP on one computer.
A second installation of Windows XP, installed on
another computer, will require another license.

Go to Start > Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter. Then click
on "End-User License Agreement" and read it.

Also, open XP's "Help and Support" and type: EULA
and click on "Questions and Answers about the
End-User License Agreement".

Only the ignorance of the End User would cause it to fail. An educated
consumer knows how to protect their rights & money from the feeble
machinations of a convicted predatory monopoly.

Persons have no right to install onle licence on more than one
machine, even if it is in their own home.

But that is supposition and theory. The EULA is fact, not supposition,
theory, or fiction.

People don't buy shrinkwrap licenses, they buy copies of copyrighted
software. As for rights:

"Any individual may reproduce a copyrighted work for a "fair use"; the
copyright owner does not possess the exclusive right to such a use." -
US Supreme Court

Now let see you back up your nonsense about what rights people don't
have, with some law or court decision. And don't even bother using the
words of MS, as their usage terms have no precedent to prove legal
enforceability on any anonymous, private, and non-commercial individual.

Greetings --

Of course not. Multiple computers require multiple OS licenses,
one per machine. Unless, of course, you can qualify for one of
Microsoft's Volume Licensing plans. This is nothing new.

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and copyright
laws, if not technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each
computer on which it is installed. The only way in which WinXP
licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is that
Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft
mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more
difficult) multiple installations using a single license.

You mean Activation, right?

"The only information required to activate is an installation ID (and,
for Office XP and Office XP family products such as Visio 2002, the name
of the country in which the product is being installed)." -
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/basics/activation/mpafaq.asp#details

So all you got to do is phone up and tell the PA phone rep your
"installation ID," unless MS is lying.
If it is on multiple PCs, that is a violation of the licese

That would be between MS & him. Your supposition isn't relevant to his
situation.

The EULA factualy exists, just like the Flat Earth Society's web pages.
MS's post-purchase shrinkwrap license usage terms have yet to be proven
to be legally enforceable on any anonymous, private, and non-commercial
individual.

When a court creates the legal precedent that some corporate copyright
owners rights out-weight my rights in my home, let us all know, but
until then, MS's EULA usage terms are nothing more than a modern fable.
