Installation issues

Hi having a bit of a problem trying to install the latest vista build 5384.4
32bit version

My specs:
Asus P4R800-V deluxe motherboard
Pentium 4 3.4GHZ CPU hyperthreading is on
1 gig RAM
ATI X800 video card
300 gig western digital hard drive

When I try to boot to dvd to install vista it appears that files are loading
and then you get the moving bar screen after that my screen goes black and
doesn't change. Looking at the computer I see no hard drive activity leds or
dvd-rom drive leds on. They are not doing there normal thing when everything
works like it should. I have left it sitting there for an hour to see if
anything started working and nothing happens. Am I to accept that my specs
aren't compatable and I need to upgrade? Or is this a known bug with vista?

Have you tried creating a partition and launching setup from within, say...
Windows XP, select the partition and install? Also, are there any
unnecessary devices attached to the system when you boot from the DVD? Its
possible Vista is trying to detect these devices, remove them and reattempt
the install.
