Install WinXP on P4C800E-D w/; 160GB SATA?

I'm trying to install WinXP Pro on a new machine with a P4C800E-D MB and a
WD 160GB SATA hard drive. The BIOS (just out of the box) shows the drive as
163 GB, which seems reasonable, but WindowsXP only sees it as about 137GB.

I bought the drive "bare" and didn't get a bootable Maxblast. I tried
downloading the bootable CD image and burned one but it wouldn't boot on the
new machine. Also, I really don't like the idea of using something like
MaxBlast on a new machine this powerful.

Anyone know how to get Windows to see the whole drive?

Look for a jumper on the drive itself. I just did a clean install of WinXP
on the same motherboard, with a 200GB hard drive, and got the full capacity.
I definitely would NOT use Maxblast. I think you're going to find that the
motherboard is not the culprit, the drive is incorrectly jumpered (for
compatibility with older systems).

Apparently Maxtor ships the drive with a single partition of 137 GB.
Windows just sees that, although I still don't know why Windows doesn't see
the additional 23 GB.

Running Maxblast and defining just a single partition doesn't appear to load
any boot time drivers.

XP's SP1 contains the new software for XP to recognize drives larger than
137GB.
