Install upgrade using winnt.exe?

Can I do a install upgrade (over the top install) if I burn/copy the
winnt.exe OR the i386 folder from the hidden partition on my Dell (not hidden
any more :) ??

Is this a possibility?

No. You need to contact Dell Support and order a Dell
Windows XP Reinstallation CD.

Carey's suggestion is correct and Dell is not as difficult to communicate
with as many other system vendors are. Of course - I speak mainly from a
gold support standpoint, etc - but I have had to contact them on regular
terms as well - and found it fairly simply if you stated what you needed
right up front and remained insistent without being rude.

You should contact Dell and try to get an actual Windows XP CD. You should
have sprung for the $10 option when it was specced originally - IMHO - and
gotten the installation CD then.

In general, however - you cannot create a CD from a recovery partition.

You may - however - be able to borrow someone elses' GENERIC Windows XP OEM
CD and use your CD Key with it... It has to be a GENERIC OEM - not one that
came with a full machine - and even then - it may not have all the drivers
you need and some other work may have to be done.
