Install/Uninstall of programs MEGA slow

This has been an ongoing issue with about 50% of the XP installs I have
done, after a while anytime I try to install or uninstall software it
can take up to 30 minutes. Any known issue/fix for this?

Is this a network driven install? Are you constantly
pushing updates to your clients? Did you get the SP1
update on disk or from the MS Update site? My co-worker
found it easier and faster if the update was on disk(or
network drive). Not sure about the software slow uninstall
issue.
