I have bought a pocket PC. To connect and use it together
with my desktop PC, Microsoft Outlook 2002 is needed.
Included with the pocketPC is an installation CD with
Microsoft Outlook 2002 on it. I could succesfully
download the setup-file to my desktop, but when I want to
open or install it, my desktop cannot find a certain
setup.INI file. Probably I don't have this file at all
because Microsoft Office is not installed on my desktop.
How can I install Outlook 2002 without the need to buy
Microsoft Office? Can I find somewhere this setup-INI
file and copy it to my desktop (where should I copy it
to)?

What do you mean with "download to Desktop" as you've got the installation
CD?

You should have no problem with this at all. What is the name of the .ini ?
Is it Setup.ini ?
Also what do you mean by "download the setup file" Is that another way of
saying "Install" ? I assume you have the physical CD and are not trying to
download Outlook from some site. What Operating System are you using ?

I AM SORRY I SAID IT WRONG: I COPIED OR INSTALLED THE
SETUP FILE FROM CD TO MY DESKTOP PC. BUT WHEN CLICKING ON
THIS FILE TO INSTALL THE PROGRAM (OUTLOOK 2002)THE
MESSAGE: "SETUP.INI IS MISSING OR INVALID" IN A WINDOW
WITH THE HEADING: MICROSOFT OFFICE SETUP, APPEARS. BUT I
DON'T HAVE MICROSOFT OFFICE ON MY PC.

Don't use CAPS!

Also; why don't you just install from CD? Copying the setup file to your
desktop is not the same.

The problem is that setup.ini must be in the same folder where setup.exe is
located. By copying setup.exe to your hard drive, you've broken the setup
procedure. Don't do it that way. Either copy EVERYthing on the CD to hard
drive or copy NOthing and install from the CD.

Ok, we are having a misunderstanding. This is what I did:
I started the desktop PC. When Windows XP was ready to be
used, I inserted the CD which automatically started. A
window appeared with the possibility to install
Outlook2002 and another program. I clicked on "install
Outlook2002" and I was asked to select a folder. I
selected a folder and the setup program was installed in
this folder. When I went to this folder I see the setup-
file, but when I click on it I get this
message "SETUP.INI IS MISSING OR INVALID" in a window
with tthe title: MICROSOFT OFFICE SETUP. What is wrong?

So, does that folder contain a setup.ini file? If so, can you open it with
Notepad? If you open it with Notepad, does it look OK inside? Do all the
file references it contains appear valid? Does it contain any non-text
information?
